About Rebelle

Until 2024, Rebelle was an international online marketplace for second-hand luxury fashion, offering high-end designer bags, clothing and accessories. What made the platform unique: every product was a one-of-a-kind item — and available in five languages: German, English, French, Italian and Dutch. Millions of product pages were created and removed daily, since every item existed only once. With this combination of high dynamism, international reach and a strong focus on premium UX, Rebelle became one of the leading platforms for pre-owned luxury goods.

Step 1

The Challenge

The challenge: a single-page application (SPA) with millions of dynamic product pages in five languages — all while avoiding duplicate content, conserving crawl budget and ensuring correct international indexation.

Duplicate Content

Faulty translations, self-referencing canonicals and duplicated URLs resulted in more than 1.2 million duplicate URLs and uncontrolled indexation.

Incorrect Hreflang Implementation

Hreflang tags pointed to wrong or untranslated URLs, preventing Google from correctly assigning the appropriate language versions.

Dynamic Product Rotation

Since every product was unique and only live for a short time, the SEO setup had to handle frequent content fluctuations without losing rankings.

SPA Architecture

The JavaScript-based single-page application generated virtual page views, making URL handling and indexation even more complex.

Step 2

Our Approach

To eliminate duplicate content and stabilise the site’s technical SEO foundation, we developed a multi-layered architecture together with Rebelle. The goal: standardise URL logic, correctly implement hreflang and canonical tags, and regain control over indexation.

Technical Structure & URL Management

  • Unified URLs per language Each product page was mapped to a single, clearly defined language version. Faulty alternatives were consolidated via redirects.
  • Cleaned XML Sitemaps Only the correct URLs per language were included, providing clear signals for Google.
  • Optimised Virtual Page Views Improved handling of SPAs enabled more reliable crawling and indexation.

Internationalisation & Tag Management

  • Correct Hreflang Tags Completely reworked language references ensured precise matching across markets. Canonical Corrections Self-referencing canonicals were fixed and aligned with the correct language versions.
  • Monitoring & Quality Control Continuous Search Console reviews ensured lasting stability and prevented new duplicate content issues.

Step 3

WEVENTURE delivers Results

The improvements showed measurable impact quickly. Thanks to a cleaner URL structure, correct hreflang implementation and fully revised sitemaps, duplicate content was significantly reduced. (Status: May 2020)

Less Duplicate Content

The number of duplicated pages decreased sharply — search engines were finally able to understand the correct language versions and canonical signals.

More Stable Indexation

Relevant product pages were indexed more consistently, increasing visibility across all language variants.

More Efficient Crawl Budget

A clear site structure and clean redirects boosted crawl efficiency and reduced wasted resources.

Long-Term SEO Stability

The foundation for a sustainable international SEO setup was established — even with a highly dynamic product inventory.

Learnings

Key insights

  • Structure beats complexity: Even highly dynamic platforms with millions of product pages can be controlled with clear URL logic and consistent redirect rules.
  • Technical SEO is the foundation of scale: Without clean canonicals, sitemaps and hreflang tags, even the strongest content strategy loses impact.
  • Crawl budget is valuable: Every unnecessary URL wastes resources — a clean information architecture improves rankings and efficiency.
  • SPAs require special handling: Correct virtual page view implementation is essential for proper indexation on single-page applications.
  • Internationalisation needs precision: Automated translations and multilingual setups only work when implemented with technical accuracy.
