The handbags, created by Milan-based Creative Director Marta Vitali, combine classic shapes with premium materials and thoughtful detailing — always only where it truly adds value. Sustainability plays a key role: since 2020, Maison Hēroïne has exclusively used leftover leather material to conserve resources. The company sells its products online as well as in its own stores.

The Challenge

In June 2019, we took over performance marketing for Maison Hēroïne. The challenge was to identify the best formats and strategies to successfully position the brand on Facebook and Instagram.

Our Approach

To increase the performance of Facebook and Instagram Ads for Maison Hēroïne, we developed a tailored strategy based on the latest best practices. Our efforts focused on optimizing video ads and aligning content specifically to each platform.

  • Vertical videos: Videos were produced in vertical format to seamlessly integrate into Instagram and Facebook Stories, showcasing the product in a large, detailed, and immersive way.
  • Product-focused storytelling: The product was always the hero of the ad, directly addressing the target audience and supporting their purchase decision.
  • Short and concise messaging: Videos were edited so the core message appeared within the first seconds to immediately capture user attention.

Facebook video best practices

  • Brand placement at the start: Brand and product were shown right at the beginning so users immediately knew who the ad was from.
  • Subtitles and sound-off optimization: Videos were designed to work perfectly without sound, with subtitles added to retain full meaning.
  • Story-format optimization: Videos were adapted to Story format requirements to maximize visibility and improve user experience.

Video ads increased the conversion rate by a factor of 42, resulting in a substantial revenue boost.

Purchases via video ads

Within a comparable period, video Stories generated 84 purchases — while static images generated only 2, clearly proving the superiority of video formats.

Learnings

Key Insights

  • Video ads outperform static ads: Video Stories delivered far higher click and conversion rates. Static images cannot compete with videos when it comes to engagement and results.
  • Platform-specific adaptation is essential: Videos must be optimized for each platform. Instagram and Facebook have different viewer behaviors and content preferences (e.g., vertical format for Stories).
  • Short and punchy messaging works best: Because user attention spans are short, key messages must appear within seconds to drive results.
  • Sound-off optimization is non-negotiable: Many users watch Stories without sound, so videos must communicate effectively visually. Subtitles and rapid visuals are essential.
  • The product must stay center stage: A strong focus on the product increases user interest and purchases. Users should instantly understand what is being advertised and why it matters.
